Facilities Support Center, NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, Edwards Air Force Base, CA
The Facilities Support Center is a state-of-the-art facility that consolidates three departments located across the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) into one building. The 36,000 square foot masonry and steel-framed building includes office space, conference and meeting areas, and workshop, lab and warehouse space.
The facility was designed entirely using Building Information Modeling (B.I.M.). The three-dimensional visuals of the building shell and infrastructure allowed for the precise coordination of all disciplines, helping the building to achieve maximum efficiency. The Facilities Support Center will be the first LEED Platinum building at the AFRC, with energy savings projected to be 40% below the baseline standard.
The project was designed to set the standard for new construction at NASA Armstrong over the course of the 20-Year Master Plan (also prepared by Development One).
