A380 Hangar Design – Qantas

Development One provided design and construction administration services for a new Airbus A380 maintenance hangar for Qantas at LAX. This project was the first hangar constructed in the U.S.A. for the sole purpose of servicing an A380 airplane.  The design included adjacent shops on the ground and mezzanine levels. This project required intense coordination between the Qantas, the General Contractor, LAWA, and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Elements of this project also included:

• The construction of a ground service maintenance area
• Two adjacent hardstands capable of parking an A-380
• Hardstands connected to the hangar shop area with docking equipment
• Movable, suspended maintenance platforms

Other site improvements included:

• Vehicle and bike parking
• Loading docks
• Ground Support Equipment (GSE) wash area
• Hazardous materials enclosures
• Underground water tanks for fire water containment
