On Wed, February 13th, Development One was pleased to attend the 2018 Howard Hughes Memorial Award Ceremony. The event, hosted by the Aero Club of Southern California, was held at the Jonathan Club in Los Angeles. This year’s event was a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and Col. Buzz Aldrin was the award recipient. “The Flying Architect” hosted a table of guests, including an impressive list of aviators, aerospace enthusiasts, and educators.
It was a night to remember for all, as Dick Rutan, pilot of the Round-The-World Voyager flight, wowed the crowd with stories of his dangerous and precarious flight. His talk was an entertaining mix of adventure and humor, which kept the crowd entertained.
In addition, Mike Machat, aviation historian, noted artist and curator of the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica, shared some fascinating facts about the Apollo mission. Finally, Tim Russ, actor, director, musician, and passionate astronomer, also shared entertaining comments. Tim, who is best known for his role as Lieutenant Commander Tuvok on Star Trek “Voyager,” graciously accepted the 2018 Howard Hughes Memorial Award for Dr Aldrin.
